On 16 August, 2011, Council adopted a Strategic Plan, which identifies a shared vision that the community and Council can work toward over the next ten years. It identifies the importance of continued sustainable economic development, protection of our environment, improvement to City assets and enhanced lifestyles for residents. It also considers Albany’s role as regional hub for the Great Southern and strategies to improve organisational performance.
The Strategic Plan 2011-2021 reviews past planning initiatives completed by the City of Albany from 2008, and incorporates wide ranging consultation feedback from a program undertaken throughout May and June 2011. It also considers the strategic objectives of a range of State and Federal Government agencies in an effort to achieve alignment with the strategies of other tiers of government operating in, and providing services to, the Albany region.
The City of Albany will partner with a number of stakeholders, including all spheres of government, the private sector, business and community organisations and individual residents to achieve its strategies. Many of the strategies are not the responsibility of the City; they require effective advocacy and partnership with the City of Albany’s stakeholders.
The Strategic Plan provides a framework for the future application of the City’s physical, human and financial resources and will be reviewed at least every four years to adapt to changing economic, social, technological, political and legal environments. The Strategic Plan will guide the development of the City’s Corporate Business Plan to be reviewed annually. Underpinning the plan is the City's set of corporate values. Councillors and staff commit to be results orientated; behave ethically, be accountable in applying the community’s resources; and provide strong leadership.
