Schools

The Albany education district extends from the town of Walpole in the west to Wellstead in the east and north to Kojonup, taking in the picturesque Porongurup and Stirling Ranges. There are 26 government schools in this area, including three senior high schools, a high school, two district high schools and an agricultural school.  There are level three to level six primary schools, education support centres, 10 early childhood units and a number of private and alternative schools.

University

The University of Western Australia and the Curtin University of Technology offer an exciting range of education programs for school leavers and mature age students in Albany. The campus is situated in the Old Post Office on Stirling Terrace, a historically significant building. A full first year enrolment is available in more than 30 recognised undergraduate degrees. The courses are spread over five UWA faculties. Complete degrees in arts and science (restoration ecology) are available. A four-year degree in education is administered by Curtin University's Centre for Regional Education in Albany.

There are opportunities for postgraduate coursework, as well as research programs and rural placements for fifth-year medical students in Albany.

TAFE

Great Southern TAFE has extensive facilities and a mix of programs to cater for the diverse population and growing economy of Albany. The education centre provides training in a range of vocations combining theory with practical instruction. Delivery of the courses is flexible, allowing individuals to customise their study timetables. Additional services at TAFE include career guidance, child care and the library resource centre. Students may also convert from the TAFE into a number of universities across Australia using the new UNilink Program.
