Outdoor nature-based and freestyle activity

Albany’s superb natural environment lends itself to a diverse range of outdoor recreation activities from bushwalking to extreme sports. Albany's reserves have launching sites for hang-gliding, paragliding and model aircraft and there are plans for a designated all-terrain downhill mountain biking track on Mt Clarence.

Pristine beaches and rugged coastlines offer perfect locations for swimming, surfing and fishing. The sheltered waters of Princess Royal Harbour are a great venue for sailing, windsurfing and kite boarding. Albany boasts some of the best scuba diving sites in the world. One of them is the artificial dive reef created when the former HMAS Perth was scuttled in 35m of water in King George sound in 2001. Click below to access live underwater and above water web cameras on this 133m long former guided missile destroyer.

The City’s sporting facilities and fields offer competitive and social sporting opportunities such as football, rugby, soccer, swimming and hockey. Multi-million dollar refurbishments to the main Centennial Park recreation precinct are planned over the next decade.
Albany boasts a proud equestrian tradition. Several clubs host events throughout the year and there is a thriving equine industry including trotting and racing clubs and an equestrian centre.
