Centennial Park Multi-Sport Complex Plan

Sustainability through co-location

The Centennial Park Recreation Precinct Plan was adopted by the Albany City Council in June 2003. The plan recommends a multi-sport facility co-locating the social, functional and administrative activities of Albany's soccer competition, two football clubs, a regional tennis facility, other clubs and the Agricultural Society. The multi-use centre would include high quality lighting, playing surfaces and spectator facilities.

Under the plan, smaller satellite changeroom facilities may service the needs of junior competition in the precinct.

Benefits

The proposal offers significant financial benefits to the clubs by reducing costs and potentially increasing income.

Consolidated facilities would reduce the infrastructure and maintenance responsibility for individual clubs and enable them to enjoy higher standard facilities. The multi-sport facility would offer more options to clubs with significantly expanding or contracting memberships.

Many facilities in the precinct are ageing, and the development of state-of-the-art facilities would be of great benefit to the various sports.

Cost

The cost of the centre and grounds development is an estimated $13 million to $20 million.

Timing

The Centennial Park Recreation Precinct Plan proposes the facilities be developed in Centennial Park over the next 15 years. This timeline would be subject to the commitment of significant capital funding by the State and Federal governments.
