Albany Tourism and Information Hub
The Albany Tourism and Information Hub is the title given to the co-location of the existing Albany Public Library and Albany Visitor Centre services. To allow for the relocation of the Visitor Centre, a building extension of the York Street frontage of the Library is required.
The proposed changes to the Library building will include a new two storey building extension to the York Street frontage to accommodate Visitor and Library services. Construction will involve removing the front facade of the existing building.
The ground floor extension will form the new Visitor Centre with the upper floor addition having flexibility to be utilised as Library space, meeting rooms, function space and potential exhibition purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The City is working through options to ensure a quality library service will continue to be delivered during the construction period as layout and services will be impacted by construction. The areas being restructured on the ground floor will include the existing young adult area, junior area and study room. The areas restructured on the upper floor will include the open plan seating area and bookable meeting room. Where possible, the users of these areas will be accommodated elsewhere temporarily in the Library or surrounding city facilities during construction, and permanently within the Library once construction is completed.
The Library is planned to remain open during construction as long as is practical and safe to do so. Opening and closing times will vary according to construction requirements and programme, as the Library will be impacted by noise and access at times during the construction period. The construction areas will be appropriately secured and made safe for ongoing library use.
Library users can still return items as usual via the after hours chute. Library and City staff will be available to offer project information from the sea container in the Town Square. Extended due dates have been implemented for your convenience through April and May and library staff will be understanding with regard to overdue charges given the disruptions. Please make the most of the library website, catalogue and electronic resources during this time.
From Wednesday 26 April to Thursday 11 May the Albany Public Library opening hours will be:
