The Vancouver Arts Centre’s August artist in residence is performing artist Matt RJ Ward. After establishing an impressive career in the UK and Europe, Matt is returning to the Great Southern to share his skills in singing and acting. During his residency Matt will be developing a new work: 40 Years Later which explores the historical events of the 1977 Save the Whale campaign in Albany. The work combines drama, singing and contemporary sound design by composer Jonathan Brain and is being presented in partnership with Creative Albany Inc and Albany’s Historic Whaling Station.
Matt’s professional performance credits include over 40 principal roles in Opera and Music Theatre between Australia and the United Kingdom. Significant career highlights include premiering Stephen Fry’s new opera The Life to Come and performing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in HRH The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee River Pageant.
