The winners of the 2018 City of Albany Art Prize were announced at the official opening of the contemporary exhibition at the Town Hall on 29 March.

Thirty finalists from around Australia were chosen from more than 300 entries of contemporary artwork, with Victorian artist Kevin Chin awarded the $25,000 Major Acquisitive Prize for his work ‘Sheltered’ (pictured).

The 30 works were selected by three independent judges (Chris Malcolm, Associate Director John Curtin Gallery, WA; Mollie Hewitt, Curator FORM; Damian Smith, Independent Curator, VIC) from over 300 entries. They form a survey of contemporary painting practice from across Australia.

This year's Art Prize will be the final year of a successful partnership with the Jack Family Charitable Trust.

View artworks from the 30 finalists between 30 March - 6 May 2018 at the Albany Town Hall.

This exhibition takes place on Noongar land. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Minang people of Noongar Nation. We pay respects to any elders past, present, and emerging. And we recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with the land, which continue to be important to Noongar people living today.
