The City of Albany will be conducting two major enhancement projects at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre. These are:

  • Replacement and upgrade of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system (HVAC) for the Lap Pool hall.
  • Replacement of the synthetic rubber flooring throughout the aquatic area with tiles.

These works will improve appearance, safety and air quality in the aquatic area, making for a more comfortable and enjoyable customer experience at ALAC.

This is a significant project which demonstrates the City’s commitment to maintaining and renewing City assets in a sustainable manner. The Department of Sport and Recreation is supporting these projects with a contribution of $30,000 through a Pool Revitalisation Grant.

To ensure that these enhancement works can take place promptly and safely, pool closures will occur. To limit the impact on our patrons, works will take place in a staged approach:

  • Lap Pool Closure:   August 15 – September 27 2015
  • Leisure & Toddler Pools, Spa, Steam Room & Slide:   September 28 - October 30 2015

The reduced pool space will result in the cancellation of some pool bookings. ALAC Management will be contacting affected user groups over the coming weeks to provide specific details how the closures will impact on them.

The reduced pool space will result in the reduction or cancellation of some programs and services in the respective pools.

The City understands that these closures will affect the services that ALAC members are entitled to. Therefore the City will be providing the following compensation for any inconvenience caused:

  • Unlimited time stop on all memberships from August 15 - October 30 2015
  • All ALAC membership prices will be frozen from July 1 2015 until the completion of the works
  • Free membership extension for the renewal of term Aquatic membership on or after July 15 2015*
  • EZYPAY Aquatic members to receive a 30% discount for the duration of the works

*Extension periods: 3 months receive 1 week free, 6 months receive 2 weeks free, 12 months receive 4 weeks free. These extensions are in addition to the standard early renewal incentive currently offered. Must renew membership prior to the expiry of previous membership. Offer only applies to the first membership renewal on or after 1 August 2015.

Due to the pool closures throughout August, September and October the number of ALAC Swim 2 Survive lessons being offered during terms three and four will decrease.

ALAC will continue to run as many lessons as possible, taking into account the different pool temperatures and the suitability for each individual class or squad.
