A record number of floats will parade along York Street in the annual Christmas Festival and Pageant on Saturday, December 1. The floats from 45 community groups and organisations will take over the city centre at 6pm in a colourful display of creativity and festive spirit. Mayor Dennis Wellington said he was excited for his favourite event on the City’s calendar and looked forward to celebrating another fantastic year in Albany. “The Christmas Festival and Pageant is a fantastic display of community festive spirit and it just keeps getting bigger and better each year,” Mayor Wellington said. The Festival kicks off at 3pm with a line-up of entertainment including musicians from ABC Great Southern, Atmospheric Artistries, Circus Challenge, Jamie the Clown, roving entertainment, face painting and a photo booth managed by ACE Camera Club. A Christmas Concert performed by students from Albany Senior High School will close out the festivities at 7pm. “It will be great to see the students put on a concert in the Town Square so we encourage everyone to stay on after the pageant and enjoy the carols,” Mayor Wellington said. A video detailing how community members with mobility impairment can access the Christmas Festival and Pageant is available on the City of Albany’s Facebook page and website. The City of Albany’s Christmas Festival and Pageant is presented by Act Belong Commit with support from Healthway, Lotterywest, Albany Advertiser and GoldMX.
