The City of Albany has teamed up with TerryWhite Chemmart Chester Pass, WA Country Health Service Great Southern and Cancer Council WA to launch a six month community sunscreen dispenser trial.

The trial, which is a Healthy Albany initiative, will take place at Eyre Park and will be located under the main gazebo.  The dispenser will provide free SPF50+ sunscreens for those who may have forgotten their sunscreen or been caught out by a change in the weather.

If successful, the trial partners will explore options for providing community sunscreen dispensers at other locations to reduce the risk of skin cancer.

Two in three Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70, yet most skin cancers can be prevented by the use of good sun protection.

To protect yourself, splop on SPF30 (or higher) sunscreen, slip on sun-protective clothing, slap on a broad-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses.

Sun protection is recommended when the UV index is three or higher. Use the SunSmart App or visit MyUV.com.au to find your UV index in Albany.
