Former WA Country Health Service Great Southern Regional Director Susan Kay will join the City of Albany next month after Albany City Council endorsed her appointment as Executive Director Community Services at its meeting on Tuesday night.
Ms Kay will bring strong management skills to the role and extensive experience in stakeholder and community engagement after a successful and rewarding career in the health sector that included various senior roles with the WA Health Department.
City Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe congratulated Ms Kay and said he looked forward to her joining the City’s leadership team.
“Susan comes to the City with excellent executive leadership skills in large, complex organisations with a focus on guiding teams to optimise outcomes,” he said. “Susan is a local Albany resident, a passionate musician, and has been involved with many community groups since making Albany her home.”
Ms Kay said she was excited to be starting a new chapter of her career and is looking forward to experiencing local government and working in partnership with the community.
“I feel privileged to join such a forward looking organisation as the City of Albany. Having worked in Albany for six years and experienced what makes Albany such a great place to live, I relish the opportunity to be part of the team meeting the needs of the local community into the future,” she said.
Ms Kay’s community services portfolio will include Vancouver Arts Centre, National Anzac Centre, Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre, Albany Public Library, Albany Regional Day Care, the City’s events team and community engagement.
Mr Sharpe thanked Adam Cousins and Samantha Stevens who had both acted as executives of the Community Services directorate in recent times.
“Both Adam and Samantha have shown excellent leadership and delivered some wonderful results in the community and their efforts have been appreciated by the community, their peers and Council and I look forward to continuing to work with them in future,” he said.
Ms Kay will start her new role on December 4.
