Spencer Park to receive splash of green image

1 June 2018

Spencer Park will receive a splash of greenery when a pop-up garden appears on the vacant block opposite the Shopping Centre on Hardie Road.

The City of Albany is collaborating with the Department of Communities to invite Spencer Park community members to help bring the garden to life on Sunday, June 10.

City Executive Director Community Services Susan Kay said the garden was the result of consultation with Spencer Park residents last year.

“Residents identified ‘greening Spencer Park’ as one of their priorities during the consultation,” Ms Kay said.

“We hope that the pop-up garden will bring together like-minded people to create a space for the community to enjoy.”

The pop-up garden sits within the Spencer Park Urban Renewal Precinct, a Department of Communities project that will revitalise the area and deliver more housing options.

Communities’ Albany branch Regional Manager Neila Williams said the Department would work closely with the City of Albany, local stakeholders and the community to develop a future vision for Spencer Park.

“As Communities owns a number of properties within this area, this is an exciting opportunity to redevelop these assets and enhance the suburb’s vibrancy and liveability,” she said.

“We are looking forward to working with and being part of the local community through this project.”

Community members who wish to help develop the garden are invited to bring along any plants they wish to donate along with gloves and trowels to use on the day.

The community planting day will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, June 10.
