The City of Albany are encouraging people to speak for their community and nominate for Council in the 2017 local government elections.

Nominations open on September 7 and community members from all walks of life are encouraged to put their name forward and make a difference in Albany.

Mayor Dennis Wellington said he hoped people would jump at the chance to get involved and join a team of people working together to make Albany a better place to live, work and visit.

“We would love to see a diverse range of candidates representing our community this year to ensure great outcomes for Albany,” he said.

Councillor Anthony Moir, who was elected in 2015, encouraged people who were considering nominating to attend one of the City’s candidate information sessions and speak to current elected members.

“I always had an interest in social and economic issues, I decided to run for Council to try and make a difference, as well as challenge myself personally,” Cr Moir said.

“Being an Albany councillor is an incredibly rewarding position and provides myriad opportunities for personal and professional development within a supportive environment.

“We’ve developed a fantastic induction program which will really help our new elected members get the most out of their time on Council.”
