A Club Development Partnership
Smart Clubs is a City of Albany program funded by the City of Albany and the Department of Sport and Recreation. Smart Clubs aims to establish a partnership between the City of Albany and local sport and recreation clubs to enhance the delivery of sport and recreation within the community.
The Club Development Officer works with local clubs and organisation to provide information and guidance on sponsorship, fundraising, grants, event management, planning, marketing and promotions, membership and volunteer training. The partnership assist clubs with:
• Effectively managing their club activities
• Building sustainable sporting and recreation clubs for the long term benefit of the community; and
• Promoting the benefits of sport and recreation to the community.

2015 Wellington and Reeves Sportsperson of the Year Award
The 2015 Wellington and Reeves Sportsperson of the Year Award will be held on 31st March 2016. Monthly nominations are currently open. Nominations can be submitted by both clubs and individuals. For more information on the Sportsperson of the Year Award, or if you would like to nominate an athlete for a monthly award please contact the Club Development Officer at the City of Albany by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
2014 Wellington and Reeves Sportsperson of the Year Award
The City of Albany recognises the achievements of our local junior, senior and veteran athletes at its Annual Sportsperson of the Year awards. The 2014 awards were recently held on Friday March 7 2015.
A black tie event this year’s guest speaker was John Worsfold. The City would like to congratulate the following winners:

Impulse Cycles Senior Award: Steven Hurley
National Lifestyle Village Veteran Award: Rob Slattery
City of Albany Sportsperon of the Year with a Disability: Robert Cridge
Wellington & Reeves Sportsperson of the Year Award: Rob Slattery
Nominations are collated on a monthly basis and reviewed by a judging panel for the selection of the monthly sportsperson winners. The City of Albany encourages local sporting clubs to nominate athletes from their clubs for the Wellington & Reeves Sportsperson of the Year Awards.
The City of Albany conducts and hosts a range of seminars and training opportunities delivering relevant industry information, resources and networking opportunities for clubs.
Smart Club Contemporary Sponsorship Project
To create long term sponsorship relationships which are mutually beneficial to sport and recreation clubs and sponsors:
- To assist clubs to identify new and contemporary methods of creating revenue through sponsorship
- To identify collaborative sponsorship opportunities amongst clubs, within shared space arrangements
- To reduce the reliance on permanent field signage within sponsorship packages
- To identify local sponsor needs and tailor packages to suit.
