As part of the 2004 election commitment, Promoting an Enterprise Culture, the Australian Government established a $50 million Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund to provide local government authorities with incentives to press ahead with regulatory reforms to benefit small businesses, particularly home based businesses, by reducing the impact of regulation and associated compliance costs.
The City of Albany, Shire of Broome, City of Geraldton, City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and IT Vision formed a consortium and received funding under the Regulation Reduction Incentive Fund program in 2006.
The consortium has developed an On-line Licensing and Permit Service (OLPS). This service enables small business, architects, builders, plumbers, developers and tradespeople to lodge plans and applications on-line and gain access to information that will enable them to lodge and track the progress of their applications.
