City of Albany Community Safety & Crime Prevention Plan

The City of Albany Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan was instigated as a result of a partnership between the State Government of Western Australia and the City of Albany. The Plan was developed in partnership with community organisations, state government agencies and community leaders and was adopted by Council in January 2010.

Five key areas were identified by the Community as being priority areas

  1. Deliver, Monitor and Evaluate
  2. Promoting Safer Communities
  3. Design out Crime
  4. Breaking Cycles and Building Futures
  5. Reduce and Minimise Harm

The City of Albany recognises that community safety and crime prevention is the responsibility of the whole community and as such this is a plan for the community.

A copy of the plan can be downloaded below, or alternatively you can phone the Community Development Officer - Youth on 9841 9294 or E-mail for a copy of the plan to be posted to you.

There are many things you can do to ensure your safety in the home. Some tips include:

  • Mark your valuables with your drivers licence number
  • Install external motion sensor or reactive lighting
  • Install a lock on your letterbox to ensure that documents which contain personal data cannot be stolen.
  • Ensure that all poisons are out of children's reach or in a locked cupboard
  • Never let a stranger in to your home - always check their identity first

Current Crime Prevention Projects/Initiatives

Eyes on the street

The City of Albany and a number of state government agencies are part of Eyes on the Street. Eyes on the Street is a coordinated intelligence gathering program which encourages State Government agencies, local governments and businesses to identify and record suspicious behaviour and report it to police.

The program encourages workers to report suspicious or criminal activity. Eyes on the Street increases police intelligence about goings-on in the local area and the high visibility of members’ branded vehicles helps deter crime
