The City of Albany Council comprises a Mayor and 12 Councillors, who are elected by the community for four-year terms. Elections take place every two years. The next election, where half the Councillor seats will be up for election, will take place on 17 October 2009. The next Mayoral election will be held in October 2011. Office: (08) 9841 9348 Home: (08) 9844 7174 Mobile: 0488 419 348 E-mail Term expires: 2011 Milton Evans served as a Councillor for the former Shire of Albany and was elected to the inaugural Council of the City of Albany in May 1999. He was re-elected for a second term in May 2003 and elected Mayor in 2007. Born and raised in Perth, Milton holds qualifications in small business management and has undertaken law studies at Murdoch University in conjunction with Justice of the Peace functions. Milton has lived in Albany for 35 years, is the current chairman of the Bendigo Bank project and the City of Albany Financial Assistance Committee. He is the vice chairman of the Albany Hospice Board of Management, a board member of the Library Board of WA and committee member of the Great Southern Employment Development Committee. Milton's vision for Albany is for it to be the retail and services hub of the Great Southern, a top tourist destination with sustainable planning policies that enhance and protect the City's uniqueness for future generations.

He was re-elected in May 2003 and October 2007. Born, raised and educated in Albany, Des is a Bornholm farmer who brings to Council an understanding of the needs and lifestyle of the rural sector. He is a current member of the Bornholm-Kronkup Community Centre and the Bornholm Tennis Club. He was the founding chairman of the Torbay Catchment Group and was a former member of the Wilson Inlet Management Authority. Des was also the president of the Albany Shire Ratepayers Association and the Mt Lockyer Primary and North Albany Senior High School P&C Associations. Des brings business management and team leadership skills to the Council. His vision for Albany is to see continued sustainable development for job growth with increasing opportunities for education and entertainment.

Jill was born in the UK, has lived in Asia and became an Australian citizen in 1979. A married mother of five, her community involvement has centred on children's activities, including sports, scouts, guides and parent teacher committees. This, together with her experience as a social worker, enables her to identify with and relate to the needs of a wide range of individuals in the community. Jill's vision for Albany is to maintain its beauty and unique character as it grows. She aims for Albany to be a City with the leadership, infrastructure, facilities and services that promote a cohesive community working together to provide a stable, thriving and nurturing environment for every member to enjoy.

Robert brings a wide range of life experience to his role as Councillor from his employment in labouring, mining, retail, wholesale and healthcare. He is in touch with a big cross-section of society through work, family and social interests. His vision is for Albany to grow and prosper over the next decade while improving in areas such as recreation, sporting and leisure facilities, healthcare infrastructure, and suburban amenities.

Gordon is a graduate of the Narrogin Agricultural College who has spent most of his working life in agriculture-related pursuits. His work has included rural merchandising, broadacre crop spraying, fertiliser spreading, running a general store and mining gypsum. Gordon was elected a Councillor of the City of Albany in October 2007. He sees Albany as an intrinsically beautiful place that needs to keep pace with the needs of its increasingly diverse and growing population. Gordon sees room for improvement in many areas including hospitals, aged care, sporting facilities, schools and tech colleges to service Albany and surrounding areas.

Joy was elected to the City of Albany Council in October 2007. She was a Councillor of the Albany Town Council for 12 years. Her vision for Albany is to develop strong business and industry, becoming a vibrant City catering for all residents. She wants Albany make the most of the opportunities before it, to progress and to provide prospects for people to remain in the area to pursue career paths while enjoying a strong sporting and social community.

Chris was elected a Councillor of the City of Albany in October 2007. He has a strong involvement in community organisations, including the Major Lockyer Proclamation Society, the Albany Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee, the City of Albany Christmas Pageant Committee and the Albany Light Opera Company. His vision for Albany is to see it grow in business, tourism and cultural development, with clear communication between the Council and the community.

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Zimbabwe, Roley completed a Bachelor of Arts (economics and law) at Rhodes University in South Africa before reading law as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. He has 30 years' experience in tourism (visitor care and marketing) in Zimbabwe and Australia and is currently the managing director of Aussie Drawcards Pty Ltd. Roley is on the Audit Committee and the Service Complaint Internal Review Committee. He has served on the committee of the Albany Ratepayers and Residents Association and is a member of the Frenchman Bay Association. As a Vancouver Ward Councillor he provides ongoing assistance and advice to both associations. Roley's vision for Albany is of a generous, tolerant and caring community that is enlightened by an objectively balanced media and led by a rationally responsive Council. His chief concern at present is that the City strikes a popularly approved balance between the need to accommodate growth on the one hand and the need to protect and enhance Albany's cultural and environmental heritage on the other.

Dot was elected to the City of Albany Council in October 2007. Her vision for Albany is for a positive future for a growing City area, where the community is consulted, informed and empowered. Dot wants to see development progress that protects Albany's heritage. She wants increased health resources, job opportunities and educational facilities for youth, and to see all sectors of Albany's multi-cultural community engaged in civic life. Dot wants the needs of seniors met and the provision of infrastructure to keep up with growth in the City.

She is the secretary of the South Coast Progress Association, community representative on the State Government Sewerage Committee for Little Grove, and past president and current committee member of the Albany Ratepayers and Residents Association. Kim was elected a Councillor of the City of Albany in October 2007. Her vision for Albany is to balance history and heritage with the tourism potential Albany offers, and for Albany to be a clean, green and safe town. She wants to be part of a team working towards giving Albany best practice planning.

John was a Town of Albany Councillor from 1994 to 1997 and was Deputy Mayor from May 1997 to November 1997. He was elected to the inaugural Council of the City of Albany in May 1999 as Deputy Mayor, a position he held until 2001. He continued to serve as a Councillor until 2003 and was re-elected in May 2005 and October 2007. John is on the committees of Timber 2020, Timber Industry Roads Evaluation Strategy, South Coast Management Group, Streetscape Advisory Committee and Tourism Marketing Advisory Committee, and is one of two City of Albany delegates on the Western Australian Local Government Association Great Southern Zone committee. John has previously served as president of the Country Urban Councils Association and vice president of the West Australian Municipal Association. John's vision for Albany is for it to be a vibrant City that will cater for both young and old. He aims for Albany to be a City with a high standard of education facilities and opportunities for employment for young people, and a place where business and industry will flourish without spoiling its unique beauty and its heritage.

She is vice president of the Lower Great Southern Family Support Association and treasurer of the Parklands School Parents and Friends Association. Nicolette is a past employee of the City of Albany, with administration experience in environmental health and records. She brings to the Council expertise in hospitality, tourism and conventions. Her vision for Albany is for a vibrant, evolving community, retaining its youth by providing employment and education opportunities and expanding its population by encompassing new businesses and retirees.

He is the vice president of the Friends of Emu Point Committee. Daniel was first elected to Council in May 2005 and re-elected in October 2007. Daniel's vision for Albany is for it to become a thriving City where locals and visitors alike can enjoy a whole experience that leaves them with the impression that Albany is the best place on earth.
