Water Use Survey 2019 (Closed)

The City of Albany is seeking feedback from stakeholders following the Water Corporation’s changes to pricing for Local Government-owned fixed standpipes which came into effect on 1 July 2019.

After the changes were announced in 2018, the Water Corporation advised the City to secure all of its standpipes in order to restrict access.

The Water Corporation stated that some commercial customers had been accessing Local Government standpipes at concessional water rates, rather than commercial rates. This created inequity and resulted in the community and State Government subsidising the activities of private enterprises on an unequal basis. Water is a precious resource and is regulated like any other valuable natural resource, and correct pricing must be enforced.

Please see the Water Corporation’s Fixed Standpipes Frequently Asked Questions circular for reference.

The City is considering the impacts to our community if it does not continue to provide water via a City-owned standpipe. We would like to assess the demand and the value of the resource to local commercial water carters, farmers and owners of properties not connected to scheme water.

It would be appreciated if you could complete the survey and return it to the City by Friday 11 October 2019.  Please email to: [email protected] or post to: Paul Camins, Executive Director, City of Albany, PO Box 484, ALBANY, WA 6331.

After 12 October, City staff may contact you to discuss your feedback.

Thank you for taking time to complete the survey.
