Cast: With the Artist's Eye

Past Event

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm, entry is free.
For a third year the Albany Heritage Park, containing the Princess Royal Fortress, will host an exhibition of contemporary artworks from 26 September to 30 October, 2020.
Cast is the final instalment of a three year project by a group of five contemporary artists, to create artworks that are inspired by the natural and historic environment of the Albany Heritage Park.
Previous exhibitions ("Crypsis: It's not what it seems" in 2018 and “Campaign” in 2019), the artists have explored the site to develop artworks based on the theme of Cast. Each artist developed works around the broadly defined meaning of cast including:
A turning of the eye
An impression taken from an object
A wide sweep
With these ideas as points of inspiration, the artists considered the Albany Heritage Park as a whole and set out to document spaces, places and concepts. Casting shadows and light in the environment, casting characters from history, casting back to memories of previous use, and moving away to cast off became strong concepts among the artists.
The five exhibiting artists are John Carberry, Annette Davis, Theo, Terri Pikora and Nat Rad. The group is connected by a shared artistic vision from working together over time which often results in collaboration. These works include a variety of mediums including video, audio soundscape recordings, textiles and paintings.
As the Barracks Gallery, their usual venue, is undergoing a major upgrade, the five artists will exhibit in the Married Quarters West Wing gallery, located along the Convoy Walk. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 4pm, entry is free.
One or more artists will be available to talk to the public when they sit the gallery on the weekends.
Several of the artists will be speaking about their artworks at a free event on Saturday 10 October, 1.30pm. Please register.
