Great Southern Speaker Series: Professor Cheryl Praeger

Past Event

Celebrate International Women’s Day with eminent Australian mathematician and UWA Emeritus Professor Cheryl Praeger!
Professor Praeger is the winner of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Prize for Science in 201, is a WA Women’s Science Hall of Fame inductee and was awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia in 2021.
As a teenager, Professor Praeger was told that girls don't pass maths by a careers advisor.
This spurred the young student work even harder to study the subject at university.
"I got angry, and stubborn, and I wanted even more to be able to study maths," she recalls.
Join Professor Praeger and host Gillian O’Shaughnessy as they discuss the motivation, opportunities and barriers that inspired Professor Praeger to become Western Australia’s first female mathematics professor.
