Artists in Residence Program

Expressions of interest sought

The Artist in Residence Program is a component of the Christmas Pageant that provides local artists the opportunity to engage with schools in creating a parade entry or installation work. The aim of the Artist in Residence program is to build a community focus for the Pageant through arts based community engagement as well as build the skills of both teachers and students in the development and presentation of creative projects.

The City of Albany is currently inviting artists to submit an Expression of Interest for involvement in the 2019 Christmas Festival Artist in Residence Program. Successful artists will be engaged by the City of Albany and paired with a school to assist students in creating a parade entry or display. All artists and community arts workers representing a range of art forms are welcome to apply.
The 2019 Christmas pageant will take place at 6pm on Saturday 7 December 2019.

If you have any questions or to apply, please do not hesitate to contact Simone Klose, Events Coordinator at simonek@albany.wa.gov.au.

Times: Festival 5 - 9pm & Midnight Fireworks Display 9pm

New Year’s Eve is an important time of celebration for everyone. Combine this with the universal nature of fireworks and you have an event that attracts multigenerational and multi-cultural participation. Held in the Anzac Peace Park, family members and friends are able to join together to share in the passing of one year and the welcoming of another.

The action all starts from 5pm where families and friends are invited to participate in interactive activities, enjoy local live music, grab a bite to eat and/or just to gather with a picnic to relax and celebrate with their loved ones.

There are two separate fireworks displays, 9pm and midnight. Middleton Beach Festival 2020

When: Monday, 20th – Sunday, 26th January 2020

Where: Middleton Beach, Albany

The Middleton Beach Festival takes place at Albany’s iconic Middleton Beach and offers an array of opportunities for the community to participate and engage. The program each year commences the week leading up to and includes Australia Day. The week provides a cultural and community experience for the Great Southern population by fostering community spirit, promoting a sense of identity and actively engaging an intergenerational community.

The Middleton Beach Festival will be a non-stop-shop of fun with a variety of activities where we will once again engage with commercial operators to provide them the opportunity to run their business from the Middleton Beach Precinct. The Festival provides diverse participation opportunities for the community, including emerging performers, local organisations and the general public. This inclusion enhances community cohesion and builds a sense of civic pride in Albany

Australia Day as part of the Middleton Beach Festival, is an excellent example of an empowering partnership with community engagement to create an event that adds up to more than the sum of its parts: Big Breakfast hosted by the Rotary Club of Albany; Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Australia Day Awards hosted by the City of Albany; and the Festival hosted by the City of Albany which will be a condensed version of the weeklong Festival programmed with activities, workshops, amusements, local food and coffee vendors, music and entertainment. To finish the day off, from sunset the space will transform into an outdoor cinema that will showcase a movie voted by the public.

The program for the Middleton Beach Festival is yet to be confirmed, stay tuned for further information.
