Vancouver Arts Centre

Vancouver Arts Centre is an active community arts centre and gallery and home to many local arts and craft groups.

Our key purpose is to develop the creative capacity of our region and we focus on supporting the practice of art-making through delivering a diverse and engaging artistic program that empowers our community and the cultural sector.

We run an annual program of touring, private and curated exhibitions, workshops, community arts projects and performing arts events, which aim to serve our existing customers and reach new audiences.

Our facilities are available to hire by individuals and groups for cultural activity.

Based in a historic building (the original hospital), our venue is special and unique and attracts visitors from outside the region to visit the gallery and enjoy a self-guided heritage tour.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and Saturday 10am - 3pm.

You can find out what current events and exhibitions we have by finding us on Facebook @CityofAlbanyArtsandCulture or Instagram @vancouverarts, by looking at the Events section on the City's website or by registering for our monthly e-newsletter by emailing us at

Exhibition Program

The Vancouver Arts Centre presents an annual program of exhibitions and conducts an annual callout process seeking expressions of interest and proposals from artists, curators, art groups and community organisations who are keen to present an exhibition in the main gallery.

A number of supported exhibition options are available and we aim to achieve a diverse mix of exhibitions that will be engaging for the local community and for visitors to the region.

On feedback from previous applicants for a longer lead in time, and to align the program with the Albany Town Hall development schedule, our next callout will launch at the end of March 2020 and will be seeking applications for the period July 2021 – June 2022

Albany History Collection

The Albany History Collection (AHC) and Albany Regional Family History Society are currently housed at the Vancouver Arts Centre.

The AHC was formerly housed in the Albany Public Library until March 2017, and temporarily relocated to the Albany Co-operative Society building on the corner of Frederick Street and Spencer Street, in order to accommodate construction of the Albany Visitor Centre.

The AHC cannot return to the Library due to space constraints following the refurbishment undertaken with the Visitor Centre construction and was therefore relocated to Vancouver Arts Centre in June 2018.

At this stage it is anticipated that the Albany History Collection will be housed in the Verandah and Small Galleries for the next year. During this time a review of AHC will be undertaken in conjunction with the Town Hall Re-purposing project to determine the best permanent location.
