Encouraging the community to walk, cycle and use public transport more often has seen the City of Albany recognised as Local Government and Workplace Champions at the 2020 Your Move Awards.
Hosted by the Department of Transport on 18 November, the Your Move Awards celebrated the success and achievements of local agencies that have encouraged communities to use more active transport.
The City of Albany’s Green Team has been using the passion and talents of staff representatives across business units at the City to promote the use of active transport among local community members and City staff.
This award recognised the City’s contribution in organising Ride 2 Work Days, encouraging cycling and walking to events, and working with schools to support the next generation of active transport champions.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the Green Team are a great example of what collective effort can do.
“The City’s Green Team have positively influenced council initiatives, community events and had a profound effect on how local schools promote the importance of active transport amongst students.
“This award is a testament to the passion and knowledge our team at the City have and their enthusiasm to promote an active lifestyle that positively impacts health, wellbeing and the environment”.
