Residents can be part of history through a project facilitated by Albany Public Library and Albany History Collection to document the everyday experiences of the community though the COVID-19 pandemic.

The global impact of COVID-19 has changed the way we all live and a new Community Observation Project aims to capture the unique experiences and perspectives of local residents living through a crisis.

Participants will be asked to provide an anonymous self portrait of themselves through a basic online survey about who they are and where they live.

City of Albany Manager Arts & Culture Paul Nielsen said collating a snapshot of our how our community has dealt with rapidly changing and challenging times and will assist recovery in the years to come.

“The survey will have open-ended questions on things like shopping, leisure, work, family and health and also encourage participants to express thoughts about their experiences, opinions and everyday observations,” he said.

“All this will provide a unique and rare opportunity to capture real moods and sentiments of the community in response to this pandemic crisis and the collective data can support future research.”

History can be told through various forms of artistic expression and for some topics there will be the ability to upload a photograph, sketch, poetry, voice recordings or images of artwork, sculpture or visual representation that is relevant to each subject.

If residents wish to participate they can complete the form at the City of Albany website https://www.albany.wa.gov.au/forms/?formId=21, call 6820 3626 or email [email protected]
