The City of Albany will join more than 140 local councils in the nationwide Garage Sale Trail for the first time in the project’s nine year history.

An award winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail is expected to involve more Australians than ever before in supporting sustainability with more than 16,000 garage sales held simultaneously across the country, Western Australia and, now Albany.

Households, schools and community groups are invited to join more than 400,000 others participating in the nationwide trail on Saturday and Sunday, October 19-20.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said Garage Sale Trail was a fun and social way for the City of Albany and its residents to discover the advantages of buying and selling second-hand.

“The City of Albany is excited to be part of the Garage Sale Trail in 2019 and encourages residents to register a sale and get involved with this great community weekend,” Mayor Wellington said.

“Reducing waste and bringing the community together are top priority for the City so we’re really pleased to be involved in this national grassroots event.

Garage Sale Trail Co-Founder Andrew Valder said sellers who have a bit of fun with their garage sale name and got to town on marketing are the ones who bring home the bacon and sell the most.

“Garage sale names like Sale of the Century, The Almost-Deceased Estate Sale, It’s a Divorce, and the Crap & Crepes Sale stick in our minds,” Mr Valder said. “At the Crap & Crepes Sale four students from France gave away a crepe with every purchase. You can see how businesses start in garages!”

Registrations are now open to be part of Garage Sale Trail in Albany and residents are encouraged to head to https://www.garagesaletrail.com.au/Albany for all the details about the trail and to register their very own Garage Sale.
