The Albany Public Library has seen a surge of interest in online book borrowing, taking advantage of borrowing app Libby to meet local demand.
In the last 12 months more than 30,000 e-Books, audiobooks and e-Magazines have been checked out by Albany locals, contributing to the one million digital items checked out Australia-wide via Libby.
Albany Public Library Adult and Community Services Librarian Katrina Houderrani said that the uptake in digital library interest is largely due to COVID-19.
“Our e-Books and audiobooks are always very popular, but have become even more so as a result of people turning to more accessible options,” she said.
“Bringing this to our community not only makes our collection available to those who may not be able to visit the library in person, but also encourages improved digital literacy amongst our older population.”
Readers interested in borrowing from the online catalogue simply need a valid membership with the Albany Public Library.
“The library provides our community with a hub of social connection, and while we still enjoy helping people find their perfect book in person, we’re glad to provide a valuable option like Libby,” Ms Houderrani said.
