City kicks on with planning community events

Published on Tuesday, 6 October 2020 at 9:00:00 AM

Albany entertainers, food vendors, musicians, artists, stall holders and more are invited to be a part of the City of Albany’s Community Events program presented by LiveLighter.

Residents and visitors can add three events to their calendars this summer, with markets, pageant, fireworks, games and more planned to proceed.

The ever popular Christmas Festival will return on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December with Twilight Markets hosted by Green Skills in Town Square and Alison Hartman Gardens, laneway activations on York Street and the Artisan Designer Gift Fair in the Town Hall.

Albany’s much loved Christmas Pageant will return at 6pm on Saturday 5 December, with walking and motorised float registrations currently open at www.cityofalbanyevents.com.

New Year’s Eve celebrations will kick off at the Anzac Peace Park at 5pm with a line-up of local live music and fireworks taking place at the family friendly time of 9pm only.

Emergency services, a ninja obstacle course, twilight market and all things wonderful about our multi-cultural nation will be celebrated as part of the Middleton Beach Festival on Friday 22 to Tuesday 26 January 2021.

Acting Community Services Executive Director Nathan Watson said he was excited to see the community come together again to celebrate on the back of a difficult year.

“This year these events will mean so much more than just celebrating our traditional festivities, they’ll be really important for reconnecting our community, and returning to some normality,” he said.

“We’ll still need to be wary of the Covid risks so measures will be in place to encourage physical distancing and comply with the State’s health restrictions for events, but we’re confident our community will embrace these requirements in the spirit of coming together in a safe and responsible way.”

Food vendors, community groups, musicians, businesses and entertainers interested in being part of the City’s events can complete the Expression of Interest forms at https://www.albany.wa.gov.au/facilities/events/events-in-the-city-of-albany.aspx

The City of Albany’s Community Events program is proudly presented by LiveLighter, Healthway, DevelopmentWA, Southern Ports, Rio Tinto and the Albany Advertiser.
