City make someone’s bay

City of Albany are supporting the National Disability Service and the ACROD Parking Program in a visual education program aimed at reducing the misuse of ACROD parking bays in Albany.

Launching on Thursday 3 December, the campaign also coincides with International Day of People with Disability and highlights the impact that parking in ACROD bays without a permit can have on a person with disabilities.

The City are installing eye-catching road decals and stickers at specific ACROD bays around town that are notoriously misused to remind drivers that This Bay is Someone’s Day.
There are 21 bays that will receive the new road signage and a select 5 bays that will have additional corflute infrastructure outlining the use of the bay for those with a valid ACROD permit.

Acting Manager Community Development and Engagement Rani Param said raising awareness of the important role ACROD bays play in a person with disabilities life is key.

“Supporting this campaign is supporting those people in our community that rely heavily on ACROD bays to be able go about their day with a sense of independence others take for granted,” she said.

“ACROD bays provide an incredibly valuable service to people with a disability but only if they are used correctly and respected by the entire community.

“More than 90,000 West Australians with severe mobility restrictions have an ACROD permit so we need to make sure they are treated correctly and made visible to drivers.”

This Bay is Someone’s Day campaign will commence from Thursday 3 December with road decals and stickers, new corflute signage, car flyer reminders, pamphlets, a social media presence and community reminders.
