Albany Town Hall will host its own festival from next week to celebrate the refurbishment of the 133-year-old iconic building into the region’s flagship arts and community events venue.

Albany Town Hall Relaunch Festival involves something for everyone to enjoy with a full two weeks of visual art, dance, theatre, literature and live music in both the upstairs auditorium and downstairs gallery.

It all kicks off from Friday, April 2 with the Poets and Performers Night, followed by the Town Hall Relaunch Ball from 7pm on Saturday, April 3 in the upstairs auditorium. The Relaunch Ball provides community with a chance to get dressed up and enjoy 3-hours of entertainment from Rainbow Coast Big Band as well as canapés and a complementary drink on arrival.

Events across the festival also include live music from Carla Geneve supported by The Morsels on April 5 in the upstairs auditorium, and from Natalie D-Napoleon Band on April 16 in the downstairs gallery.

Documentary film Dancing in Southern Shoes will also be screened followed by a performance by MoVo, CoMotion bring their immersive audiovisual live dance performance to the Town Hall, and Flickerfest celebrate their 30th anniversary in style.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said the festival will show off the Town Hall’s new capacity and ability to host a variety of performances and events.

“We have so many talented artists across the Great Southern and regional WA, and we now have a state-of-the-art venue to host them which is fantastic. There is a very exciting line-up of incredible talent across the Festival with live music to historical tours, storytelling and everything in-between so we encourage the community to come along and enjoy it,” he said.

As part of the Festival, the Town Hall is hosting the Great Southern Art Award exhibition for the first time, celebrating and admiring the incredible work of our local artists.

The City of Albany thank key partner Lotterywest for making the Town Hall repurposing project possible, and the Great Southern Development Commission who have supported the project through the Regional Economic Development Scheme.

Albany Town Hall Relaunch Festival takes place from April 2 – April 18 at Albany Town Hall.
