Young people across the Great Southern are invited to enter the inaugural Great Southern Youth Art Awards 2022 for an opportunity to be exhibited in the Albany Town Hall.

Creatives up to the age of 18 and living within the Great Southern can submit one entry into the competition, with the first 70 entries to be accepted for the awards.

There are two categories – Best 2D Artwork and Best 3D Artwork – for under 12 years old and entrants aged between 12 and 18 years, with each winner receiving a $200 materials voucher prize.

Each entry will also automatically go into the category of Popular Choice.

Three local art industry professionals will judge the awards for each category with the full panel to be announced closer to the date.

City of Albany Visual Arts Officer Indra Geidans said the Great Southern Youth Art Awards are a natural progression from the Great Southern Art Awards.

“The Great Southern has an inordinate amount of young artistic talent just waiting to be discovered,” she said.

“Expanding the successful Great Southern Art Award to branch off into a youth focused space is an exciting time for the City and our local youth.

“These awards will offer a stepping stone for young artists to prepare and focus on their skills ahead of the Great Southern Art Award that is in their future.”

Entry submissions open on 7 March 2022 and can be found at https://artsandculture.albany.wa.gov.au/exhibitions/great-southern-art-youth-awards.aspx

Successful entries will be showcased at Albany Town Hall from June 15 to July 21 this year
