The latest exhibition to the Albany Town Hall commences next month as artist Tjyllyungoo/Lance Chadd presents work that reflects his Aboriginal spirituality and connection to country.
Born in the South-West of Western Australia Lance Chadd’s tribal name Tjyllyungoo means Elder, wisdom, law and was given to him by his father Norman Chadd.
Tjyllyungoo/Lance’s exhibition Ibelongyoubelongwebelong presents a series of work based on his personal connection to country and cultural research of ‘Boorongurup’ known as Porongorup Ranges.
As the oldest granite formation on Earth, Boorongurup is an important place for Bibbulmun peoples and the most important Winartj (sacred place) on Country.
Ibelongyoubelongwebelong emphasises Aboriginal spirituality and the foundational ‘Boorongur Lore’ of connectivity and unity of land, people, animals and plants.
Tjyllyungoo/Lance said his work offers easy access for viewers to reflect on how each of us belong and connect to all that is a part of us; the life that our Boodja offers.
“This series of work is a combination of research and inward exploration of my own culture and spiritual connection to Country,” he said.
“I want to offer audiences an opportunity for a greater kind of knowing and connecting to those places we each hold dear.
“Through Ibelongyoubelongwebelong I want to bring the intangible energy and spirit of Country into focus.”
Ibelongyoubelongwebelong will be on display at the Albany Town Hall from 3 November – 29 November 2022.
