Middleton beach milestone gets underway

A project to enhance the Middleton Beach Foreshore will reach another milestone, as the development of new public open space begins this week.

The site will undergo key changes, including formalised service access to Three Anchors, new lighting, decking and seating, improved active transport connectivity, and the permanent closure of the car park area south of the Albany Surf Life Saving Club.

These changes are a result of significant consultation which saw the City engage with a variety of key stakeholders and community members to ensure the positive growth, development and vibrancy of Middleton Beach.

Executive Director Infrastructure, Development and Environment Paul Camins said that the Middleton Beach Foreshore Enhancement was reaching an exciting new stage of development.

“The new and improved carpark is now open with replacement and additional tree planting scheduled towards the end of April so the precinct is on track for completion this year,” he said.

“These works will provide the community with a fresh space for a wide variety of recreational activities and will open up the area for higher levels of visitation.

“Through an extensive planning process, the City has been able to ensure that no car parking bays will be lost within the whole precinct, offer wider bays overall and reduce the impact on current users of the site.”

Staged works will continue through to December this year which will also include a lookout, and a Jetty boardwalk.

During the development process the City will maintain access, including disabled access, to Middleton Beach, Three Anchors, Ellen Cove, the boardwalk and jetty to reduce disruption to beachgoers.

The City encourage the community to continue making use of the area and continue to support Albany local businesses.
