Albany residents are encouraged to put second-hand first as part of the award winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail, when it returns to Albany in November 2020.
Themed the Recovery Edition, this year’s event aims to help communities on the road to economic recovery by encouraging people to save money through reselling and reusing second-hand goods.
Households, schools, groups and businesses are invited to join more than 400,000 others nationwide by hosting a garage sale or shopping the trail over Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of November.
Albany residents will also have access a series of free online fashion masterclasses called Trail Tutorials teaching them to style, mend and shop second-hand to minimise waste and save money.
Driven by more than 115 councils across Australia, Garage Sale Trail is just one of the City’s initiatives to reduce landfill and support residents to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Mayor Dennis Wellington said Garage Sale Trail was a fun, social weekend showcasing the benefits of buying and selling second-hand.
“Garage Sale Trail is a great opportunity for people to connect with their community, have lots of fun and make some extra money at a time when many people need it most,” Mayor Wellington said.
“We are thrilled to be involved with this initiative once again and encourage people to register, declutter their homes, raise funds and save money while saving valuable resources from landfill.
“Being clean, green and sustainable is a passion and priority of Council and being part of Garage Sale Trail certainly points us in the right direction to achieve this.”
Garage Sale Trail will provide guidelines to ensure COVID-19 restrictions and safety precautions are in place.
