New and emerging artists from across the Great Southern region are invited to take inspiration from the Akoya oyster and explore the colours green and blue in an upcoming multi-media exhibition.
The inaugural G + B Exhibition, which stands for green and blue, is being held as part of the City of Albany’s 2022 Maritime Festival in July.
Manager Community Relations Louise Paterson said the City is very excited to be expanding the Maritime Festival this year to include an art exhibition.
“Albany and the Great Southern abounds with so many incredibly talented artists and we wanted to provide an opportunity to show off their beautiful work and be involved in this year’s Maritime Festival,” Ms Paterson said.
Artists over the age of 16 are invited to create new works in the colours of green and blue for exhibition at Albany Entertainment Centre.
“Artists can use any medium they choose – painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, welding, weaving, to name a few. The work must be predominantly in shades of green and blue, it must be new work that has not been previously exhibited and it must be for sale,” Ms Paterson said.
“We are particularly keen to receive entries from new and emerging artists who may never have exhibited previously. This is a community art exhibition and we want all members of our community to have the opportunity to enter.”
Entries in the The G + B Exhibition will be eligible for two prizes – $1000 for Best Overall Entry and $500 for the Community Choice Award.
The exhibition will be curated by guest curator Bernadette McKirdy.
“Bernadette has recently completed an intensive internship at The Kerry Stokes Collection. We are delighted to be hosting Bernadette in her first regional guest curator role,” Ms Paterson said.
Ms McKirdy will be holding an artist’s briefing on Wednesday, March 9 at Vancouver Arts Centre from 5:30pm.
