Ribbons for Road Safety

Published on Thursday, 12 December 2019 at 9:16:31 AM

The City of Albany is joining an annual campaign to urge the community to stay safe and avoid ‘silly
season’ on our roads so everyone can take their seat at their family Christmas lunch table.

Wearing a ribbon or emailing an e-Ribbon as part of the Road Ribbon for Road Safety campaign is a
simple way we can all show support for the cause and remind our family, friends and colleagues to
drive responsibly this summer holidays.

Driven by the Road Safety Commission, the campaign runs until Friday, January 3, and with the
current regional WA road fatality for the year currently at 78, its message couldn’t be more timely.

Mayor Dennis Wellington said road safety remained a top priority of the City and it was essential we
all played part in reducing the road toll.

“Wearing a free road ribbon is an easy way to show your commitment to increasing the number of
safe and successful experiences on our roads,” he said.

“A serious crash is not a temporary tragedy, it is a tragedy where the wounds last a lifetime and the
scars of a serious crash are in most cases permanent and often not physical”.

“I encourage everyone to get their free ribbon for road safety as we go into this holiday season to
remind ourselves and those around us that by practicing safe actions on our roads we just may save
someone’s life, or even a life close to yours.”

The City of Albany is encouraging everyone to join in and play their part by complying with road rules
and supporting this community–based campaign across the Christmas and New Year break and
getting friends and family involved with a Road Ribbon.

Road ribbons are available from Albany Public Library, City of Albany North Road Administration
Building, albany.wa.gov.au or the WALGA RoadWise website.
