Young locals with a passion to spread their wings have an opportunity to experience a day in the life of an Air Force officer through a partnership between the Royal Australian Air Force and the City of Albany.
To celebrate the centenary of the Royal Australian Air Force, a youth scholarship is on offer for three individuals between the age of 12 and 18 to participate in a weekend of Air Force themed activities.
Titled ‘A day in the life at the Air Force 2021', the scholarship is designed to facilitate opportunities for Albany youth to experience career development and build on the skills and abilities within the aviation sector.
Winners and a parent or guardian will also be provided with free flights from Albany to Perth with REX Airlines as well as accommodation at the Crown Promenade in Burswood to cater for the weekend.
City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the centenary celebrations provided a chance to collaborate with the second oldest independent Air Force in the world.
“The City is committed to finding new and interesting ways to encourage the development of our youth through engaging projects and scholarships like this,” he said.
“We hope this opportunity inspires students to challenge themselves academically and broaden their horizons while learning about Australia’s defence force.
“This opportunity will be an exciting adventure for each of the winning students who will be able to immerse themselves in the experiences of the Royal Australian Air Force.”
Applications will be judged by a panel of representatives from the RAAF and City of Albany who will be looking for students to demonstrate their contribution to community, personal growth and academic excellence.
‘A day in the life at the Air Force 2021' scholarship opportunity is open to youth aged 12 to 18 from all high schools within the City of Albany municipality, with winners announced the week of May 17.
