Storm clean up continues

As work continues to repair and reopen damaged roads from Sunday’s storm, the City of Albany reminds all residents to take extra care on the roads.

On Tuesday 22 June the following City managed roads remained closed:

  • Lower Denmark Road from Frenchman Bay Road to Cuthbert (except for local traffic)
  • Meanwood Road between Kronkup North and Thomas Road
  • Riverside Road.
  • Lowanna Road, Frederick Street and Redmond Hay River gravel section are open to local traffic only.

There are also possible closures in the Napier area with Takenup Road and Bennett Road currently experiencing flooding.

City staff are monitoring these roads and will provide further updates as the situation changes.

South Coast Highway is now open at George Street and is under traffic control, however Denmark is still inaccessible via South Coast Highway because of the closure at Sleeman River.

Those in the Torbay, Kronkup, Elleker and Marbelup areas can travel to Albany via Marbelup Road through to South Coast Highway.

Lower Denmark Road west of Cuthbert to South Coast Highway is open to traffic.

The National Anzac Centre will reopen on Wednesday 23 June.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said City crews are working around the clock to ensure safe access for residents.

“Our City staff are working alongside the Albany State Emergency Service and Police to get these roads and facilities reopened as soon as possible,” he said.

“I thank City staff for their continuous work to get these roads open to the public as soon as possible and their commitment to doing this safely.”

Regular updates on City managed roads and infrastructure are available from the City of Albany Facebook page and website.
