The Albany Heritage Park has become a Children’s University learning destination, joining the City’s growing list of educational hotspots.
Children aged seven to 14 from partnering primary schools can now participate in unique learning activities while exploring the award-winning site.
Facilitated through the Children’s University ‘Passport to Learning’, participants will receive a stamp from staff or their school coordinator after completing a fact-finding mission that contributes towards their graduation from the Children’s University.
Manager Facilities Letitia Stone said the Children’s University program provides opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of local history.
“The Albany Heritage Park has a breadth of information for young minds to explore,” she said.
“Our Youth Site Mission challenges Children’s University participants to harness their curiosity and complete the question sheet to become a fully accredited Albany Heritage Park Cadet.”
The site joins Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre, Albany Public Library, Fossickers Tip Shop, Albany Visitor Centre and the Vancouver Arts Centre which are also Children’s University learning destinations.
Children’s University Project Officer Alex Gerrard said the Albany Heritage Park was a perfect fit for the education program.
“Children’s University is all about the community of Albany coming together to create new learning opportunities by facilitating high quality and engaging extra-curricular experiences for children,” she said.
“Encouraging a love of learning from a young age celebrates learning through interests, as we know meaningful learning happens when we are interested.”
