Youth Park Funding

Dirt jumps, skate plaza, multi-court, skate path, parkour, pump track and a skate bowl will be features of a new Youth Challenge Park thanks to funding from major supporter Lotterywest.

Youth Minister Peter Tinley was in Albany yesterday to present the City of Albany with $950,000 from Lotterywest towards the project, designed following extensive consultation with local young people and wider community.

Located directly adjacent to Albany Skate Park behind PCYC on Sanford Road, the Youth Challenge Park will build on existing youth infrastructure within the precinct and be a place where they can gather, connect and stay active.

It will also be a home base for Albany Mountain Bike Club, which has contributed to the project and provided input into the design of the pump track.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Susan Kay said the park would give youth a place they could enjoy and call their own, and would be ideal for hosting festivals, youth specific events and competitions.

“Albany’s Youth Challenge Park is a fantastic collaboration between the City of Albany and major supporter Lotterywest that will give our young people a safe place to relax and have fun,” she said.

“This project helps us meet the objectives in our Youth Friendly Albany Strategy by engaging with young people to create youth spaces where they can socialise with friends and feel welcomed and included within the Albany community.”

The Federal Government has also committed $300,000 to the project. The State Government has provided $200,000 through Stage 2 of the Centennial Park redevelopment project.

Works on the Youth Challenge Park project are expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
