Recycling

Urban residential property owners in the City of Albany pay a Residential Waste Charge as part of their Annual Rates. This entitles them to a kerbside bin collection, as well as bulk verge collections and vouchers to drop off additional waste.

The City of Albany manages the kerbside bin collection service in conjunction with contractors Cleanaway and Vancouver Waste Services.

For enquiries about your kerbside collection service please phone Cleanaway on 6801 7500.

Rural residential ratepayers receive a Rural Waste Pass, which entitles rural residents to drop off waste and recycling at one of the City's Rural Transfer Stations or Waste Facilities. For more information, visit the Waste Drop-off Centres page.

Your yellow-lidded recycling bin is collected fortnightly all year round.

What goes in my recycling bin?

The items in your recycling bin are sorted, baled and transported for recycling into new products.

Keep your recycling simple and remember only 5 things go in your yellow-lidded recycling bin

  • Glass bottles and jars (lids removed)
  • Cans
  • Plastic bottles and containers (lids removed)
  • Paper
  • Cardboard (flattened)

Items must be rinsed, lids removed, and loose in the bin (not in bags).

Please do not put soft plastics, batteries or hazardous waste, clothing or rope in your recycling bin.

Excess household recycling can be dropped off for FREE at Fossicker's Tip Shop at the Hanrahan Road Waste Facility - or you can contact the City of Albany for information on options for an extra bin collection.

Not sure about whether an item is recyclable? Visit Recycle Right for a comprehensive list, or download the Recycle Right app.
