Published on Thursday, 18 January 2024 at 2:15:38 PM

Entries for the second Great Southern Youth Art Award will open this month and it is expected to attract plenty of talent following the success of the inaugural award in 2022.

Creatives up to the age of 18 and living within the Great Southern are invited to submit one entry into the competition, with the first 70 entries to be accepted for the awards.

There are two categories – Best 2D Artwork and Best 3D Artwork – for under 12 years old and entrants aged between 12 and 18 years, with each winner receiving a $200 materials voucher prize.

Each entry will also automatically go into the category of Popular Choice.

Three local art industry professionals will judge the awards for each category with the full panel to be announced closer to the date.

City of Albany Visual Arts Officer Indra Geidans said the Great Southern Youth Art Awards supports the development a vibrant and culturally rich artistic community.

“There's an abundance of untapped artistic talent among the youth in the Great Southern region,” she said.

“These awards provide an opportunity for young up and coming artists to showcase their talents, and it fosters their growth and development so they can hone their skills and take the next step in their artistic careers.”

Entry submissions open on 29 January 2024 and can be found here.

Successful entries will be showcased at Albany Town Hall from March 15 to April 21 this year.
