City campsites closed this Easter

The City of Albany is urging all residents to stay home this Easter holiday and cancel any plans to camp at the City’s nature based campsites because they will be closed.

With Easter falling during a global pandemic this year, residents across the region are encouraged to do their part for the safety of community and spend this long weekend at home.

Cosy Corner, Torbay Inlet, East Bay, Bettys Beach, Normans Beach and Cape Riche make up the City’s nature based campgrounds that will be closed to anyone other than travellers without a fixed address who are stuck in our region because of travel restrictions.

Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington said it was an unfortunate situation as Easter is a much loved holiday and excuse for families to get away, but this year is different.

“It’s disappointing that we’ve had to close our campgrounds, but it’s important for the health and safety of everyone at this time,” he said.

“We know a lot of people from towns across the region may have been planning to come to Albany to camp over Easter with their families, and usually we’d welcome you, but you need to stay in your home towns this year.”

Mayor Dennis Wellington said travellers with no fixed address who had nowhere else to go would be given permits to stay at the campgrounds until intrastate travel restrictions are lifted.

“Our rangers are doing regular patrols of the City’s campgrounds across the Easter holiday period and where no permit has been issued, they’ll be asking people to leave the area.”
