Direct Debit

Set up a direct debit for this financial year only

If you wish to pay the current year’s rates by direct debit, the City of Albany offers plans via our website payment page.

Payments are processed via Bpoint and are spread over the financial year with a final payment in June. Payments can be set up with a credit card or a bank account and ratepayers can nominate whether they want to pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly. The amount you need to pay (as well as any interest) will be outlined when setting up the plan.

Set up a weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debit ongoing from year to year

If you wish to set up a direct debit for a set amount and have this ongoing from year to year, this is the direct debit for you.  This type of direct debit is from a bank account only and is processed on a Friday.

A plan can be set up to clear the current outstanding balance and then continue into the next financial year for the new rates. You can also start a direct debit when your current rates are paid in full and you wish to start making payments towards the new rates before they are issued.

You will need to download and complete a Direct Debit Request Form - Weekly/ Fortnightly/Monthly and forward it to our Rates Department. There is a one-off set up fee and interest will be charged on any overdue amounts (unless you are an eligible pensioner or senior). This direct debit plan allows you to make payments towards the next year's rates before they are even issued.

Payment Options

What are the instalment options?

Rates can be paid by one of two instalment plans. The two instalment plan requires payments in September and January and the four instalment plan payments are due in September, November, January and March. An instalment fee is payable and the first instalment must be paid by the September due date on your notice.

What if I cannot pay my account in full or by instalments?

The City offers direct debit to ratepayers who find the instalment options do not suit. See above for further information or contact a Rates Officer to discuss your options.

What happens if I do not make a payment by the due date?

The City charges interest at a rate of 11% per annum calculated daily on any outstanding balance not being paid in instalments (excluding registered pensioners and seniors).

Overdue rates and charges may be recovered by legal action, the cost of which will be payable by the ratepayer and be added to the rates assessment.

What if I am in severe financial hardship?

If you are unable to pay your rates due to financial hardship, please contact our Rates Department as soon as possible to discuss your options.
