Direct Debit

Set up a weekly, fortnightly or monthly direct debit

The City of Albany offers direct debit options to pay your rates on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly payment plan. The debits are processed from a bank account and are deducted on a Friday. The monthly payments are deducted on the first Friday of the month unless otherwise agreed.

A direct debit can be set up to clear the current outstanding balance or make payments towards the next year's rates before they are issued.

You are able to have the direct debit continue from year to year. You will be notified each year if you need to increase your payment amount to cover the new rates account.  Write 'ongoing' in the final payment date box on the form to roll the direct debit into the next year.

Please download and complete a Direct Debit Request Form - Weekly/ Fortnightly/Monthly (link below) and forward it to our Rates Department. To confirm the amount you need to pay, please contact a Rates Officer on (08) 6820 3100 or email rates@albany.wa.gov.au.

There is a one-off set up fee and interest will be charged on any amounts outstanding after the due date (unless you are an eligible pensioner or senior).

What are the instalment options?

Rates can be paid by one of two instalment options.

The two instalment plan has the account paid in two amounts in September and January.

The four instalment plan has the account paid in four amounts due in September, November, January and March.

The first instalment must be paid by the September due date on your annual rate notice. An instalment fee may be payable and all arrears are required to be paid with the first instalment.

Other Payment Information

What happens if I do not make a payment by the due date?

The City charges interest at a rate of 5% per annum calculated daily on any balance outstanding after the due date. Interest is also charged on overdue instalments. Registered pensioners and seniors are exempt from interest charges.

Overdue rates and charges may be recovered by legal action, the cost of which will be payable by the ratepayer and be added to the rates assessment.

What if I am in severe financial hardship?
