Direct Debit

Set up a weekly or fortnightly direct debit

The City of Albany offers a convenient direct debit option, allowing you to pay your rates on either a weekly or fortnightly basis.

Payments are automatically deducted from your nominated bank account on a Friday.

You can set up a direct debit to:

  • Pay off your current outstanding balance, or
  • Start making advance payments towards next year’s rates before they’re issued.

If you’re setting up a plan for your current rates, the full amount must be paid by 30 June of the current financial year.

To confirm how much you’ll need to pay to meet this deadline, please contact our Rates team on (08) 6820 3100 or email [email protected].

Your direct debit will continue automatically from year to year. When receiving your Annual Rate Notice, please review the amount you are paying is sufficient to cover the new rates and adjust the amount accordingly. Alternatively you can email a request to review to the rates team.

Please note:

  • A one-off setup fee applies, as per the City’s schedule of Fees & Charges.
  • Interest will be charged on any overdue amounts (unless you are an eligible pensioner or senior), so it’s important to factor this into your payment amount.

To get started, please download and complete the Direct Debit Request Form – Weekly/Fortnightly (link below) and return it to our Rates Department.

Instalment Options

What are the instalment options?

Rates can be paid by one of two instalment options.

The two instalment plan has the account paid in two amounts in September and January.

The four instalment plan has the account paid in four amounts due in September, November, January and March.

The first instalment amount shown on your annual notice must be paid by the September due date. The cost associated with the instalment option is shown on your notice and any arrears are included in the September payment amount.

Other Payment Information

What happens if I do not make a payment by the due date?

The City charges late payment interest at a rate of 7% per annum calculated daily on any balance outstanding after the due date. Interest is also charged on overdue instalments. Registered pensioners and seniors are exempt from interest charges.

Overdue rates and charges may be recovered by legal action, the cost of which will be payable by the ratepayer and added to the rates assessment.

What if I am in severe financial hardship?

Please contact the City of Albany Rates Department to discuss your circumstances and payment options.
