Work Experience
The City accepts students on work experience placements whenever operationally possible. Students are placed primarily to observe and learn rather than to undertake tasks; however when appropriate, they will be given the opportunity to be hands on. Unpaid work experience placements can be a great way to gain experience or explore a job or industry.

Privacy Collection Notice – Personal Information
The People and Culture Team at the City of Albany collects your personal information to provide services and carry out our functions under relevant legislation.
We collect only the information we need, and we handle it in line with the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 in Western Australia.
Use of Information:
Your information may be used to:
- On-board you as an employee, volunteer or work placement
- Ensure you are provided with a safe work environment and in case of emergencies
- Provide reasonable adjustments where required
- Contact you regarding work matters only where you are not contactable via City provided means
- Inform workforce planning (as part of aggregate, de-identified data)
- Meet reporting requirements (as part of aggregate, de-identified data)
- Meet our legal obligations
Storage and Security:
Information is securely stored and only accessible by authorised staff. We take steps to protect it from loss, misuse, or unauthorised access.
Retention and Disposal:
We keep your information for as long as required by law and our recordkeeping policies. When it is no longer needed, the City will destroy or de-identify it securely.
Sharing Information:
We do not share your personal information unless:
- You give us permission
- There is a situation where not sharing your information would impact your safety at work
- We are legally required or authorised to do so
Information will only be shared where absolutely necessary and only with those directly involved in a matter. Breaches are taken seriously and will be dealt with through City disciplinary policies and procedures.
