Extraordinary Election seeks community representation

The City of Albany is calling for eligible residents who are keen to represent the West Ward community to nominate for the Extraordinary Election when nominations open on 2 November 2022.

In August 2022, West Ward Elected Member Alison Goode passed away leaving a vacant seat on Albany Council.

In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995, the City of Albany is required to fill the ward vacancy by holding an Extraordinary Election on 16 December 2022.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said representation of the West Ward was important for capturing the rural resident’s voice.

“We have a fantastic Council who provide leadership and direction to our city with a vision to grow our capacity as a regional location, provide ongoing opportunities and motivate community,” he said.

“The successful candidate will be joining a supportive and experienced group of Elected Members.”

The City will be providing Candidate Information Packs to those residents interested in applying for the vacancy from the City of Albany Administration Building on North Road.

Interested potential candidates can also contact the Council Liaison Officer on 6820 3076 during business hours for further information.

Residents in the West Ward are also reminded to ensure they are enrolled to vote ahead of the December Extraordinary Election.

The Electoral Roll for this election closes at 5.00pm Thursday 27 October 2022.
