Face masks mandatory at Albany Airport

As part of the Federal Government’s strategic management of the more contagious UK variant of COVID-19, the City of Albany has implemented the Airport and Transportation Face Mask Directions to further limit the spread and risk of the virus.

Effective from Tuesday this week, these measures require any person (including passengers, visitors and workers) entering Albany Airport buildings to wear a face mask that covers the nose and mouth.

This follows the National Cabinet’s recent announcement that wearing face masks on all international and domestic aircraft and at airports across Australia is now mandatory.

City of Albany CEO Andrew Sharpe congratulated the Albany community on their response to COVID management directions introduced by the Government, and said he was confident they would continue to comply with the new rules to keep Albany safe.

“The coronavirus pandemic has placed significant challenges on all of us but we have been resilient and I thank our residents and visitors for playing their part in maintaining the safety of our community,” he said.

“With the concern of this new UK strain of coronavirus in Australia, it’s more important than ever that we continue to put safety first and abide by these Federal Government directives. Wearing a face mask while flying or picking up a loved one from the airport is a small price to pay for our health and safety.”

Under the Airport and Transportation Face Mask Directions, failure to comply may be considered an offence, punishable by a fine of up to $50,000 for individuals and $250,000 for bodies corporate.

The City reminds Albany residents to continue physical distancing, engaging in regular hygiene practices and using the State Government’s Safe WA app when visiting public facilities and venues where it is required.
