The City of Albany have made the decision to cancel the inaugural South West Street Fest that was due to take place on York Street this Saturday due to the escalating national response to restricting the spread of COVID-19 in Australia.

With the COVID-19 situation changing rapidly, the City of Albany are following the advice of the Department of Health in relation to events in Albany.

Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington said that the decision to cancel the South West Street Fest is unfortunate but crucial for public health and safety.

“We regret having to cancel this event but feel it’s in the best interests of our community and apologise for any inconvenience this causes to those who were involved,” he said.

“We’re seeing a lot of events cancelling across the country and in our community as everyone rallies to take precautions and try to limit the spread of the disease.

“York Street and the laneways will still be there in the future when we can reinstate events such as South West Street Fest, and hopefully make them bigger and better when they return”.

The Department of Health is leading the national response to COVID-19 and issuing regular updates and guidance. The public can stay up to date via the Department of Health website at www.health.gov.au or HealthyWA website at www.healthywa.wa.gov.au.
