Expressions of interest are open for two community members to join City of Albany Councillors and staff on an Advisory Group to monitor and report on the implementation of the City’s new Communications and Engagement Strategy 2019-2022.

The Strategy was developed following extensive community consultation and responds to the feedback received by not only focussing on keeping our community informed but also providing opportunities to have a say and be involved in decision-making processes.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the strategy provided a roadmap for the City’s communication and engagement activities over the next three years and it was important to have community representatives on the advisory group.

“We’ve undertaken extensive community consultation in developing this strategy to ensure it responds to the needs and expectations of our community, so we want them to continue to be involved in the strategic process,” he said.

“We met with people in our community at shopping centres, the library, leisure centre and through community workshops, and also got feedback through an online survey. Our community said loud and clear that timely, easily understood information about Council decisions and services is important, and they want more opportunities to have conversations with our Elected Members.”

The Strategy sets out objectives and priorities for three pillars – engagement, communications and media – and is underpinned by an action plan that will help the Advisory Group monitor implementation of the strategy on a quarterly basis.

Mayor Dennis Wellington said the work to develop the Strategy had provided Council with some key insights which would help it better meet the community’s needs and expectations.

“We have a very diverse community both geographically and socially, so we are mindful one approach isn’t going to work for everyone, or all circumstances,” he said. “It’s a challenge we hope this Strategy will help us with and assists us to deliver high-level communications and best-practice engagement into the future.”

Written expressions of interest to join the Advisory Group should include your interests, skills and abilities to represent community impartially and broadly. Expressions of interest close on Friday, August 30 and can be emailed to [email protected]
