As part of the works to upgrade the iconic Town Hall in Albany’s CBD precinct, power to the street lights on York Street will be temporarily switched off from tonight.
Works to restore the Town Hall to a modern standard commenced in December 2019 and includes conservation works, structural repairs, infrastructure upgrades and advancements in technology.
Enhancements to the main entry, walkway and staircase are set to take place from this week and safety requirements mean the streetlight power supply on York Street will be turned off.
This temporary halt to power supply will mean that street lights on York Street will be out from Grey Street up to the Albany Highway/St Emile Way roundabout, until works have been complete.
Some surrounding roads near the roundabout may also be affected including Lockyer Ave, Middleton Loop, St Emile Way and Albany Highway.
City of Albany Executive Director Infrastructure, Development and Environment Paul Camins said residents were urged to take extra caution as they pass through this area of town.
“We aim to make this streetlight outage as short-lived as possible where a restoration time will depend entirely on the extent of the works that need to be undertaken in the area,” Mr Camins said.
“It is important that residents travelling on York Street at this time adhere to the speed limit, keep an eye out for pedestrians, respect the road rules and be alert at all times.”
