Join Healing Hands Wildlife Care and Dean Huxley, manager of WA Wildlife, for a weekend of comprehensive wildlife training.
A comprehensive 2-day course held in Albany WA over the weekend of the 26th and 27th November 2022, hosted by Healing Hands Wildlife Care (Great Southern WA) Inc, and presented by WA Wildlife (Native ARC Inc).
The course includes the rescue, rehabilitation and release of western grey kangaroos, ringtail and brushtail possums, other marsupials, the care of native birds, reptiles, turtles and more, integrating critical care and the stages of rehabilitation to release.
The course will cover:
- Information and instruction on rescue techniques, including large injured macropods
- First in care, triage of wildlife
- Providing pain relief
- Response and care of injured animals from fires
- Diseases, illnesses and their treatment
- Transportation, release and observation
- Humane euthanasia
- Legalities of wildlife rehabilitation
- Occupational health & safety
- Record keeping
- Self care
A must for any wildlife rehabilitator, both experienced and novice, and for those with an interest in becoming a wildlife carer.
The course will be held over 2 full days from 8:30am to 5:00pm both days, and includes course materials, morning tea, lunch and a light afternoon tea (including some gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options).
The course is not suitable for children and course content will include sensitive subjects such as euthanasia techniques, and the use of cadavers in teaching of safe crop feeding in birds.
